Porlander Shorts for Women

I love it when pattern designers listen to their fans!

That was certainly the case with the Portlander Pants by New Horizons- as the girls version was released (see my review here), moms everywhere began clamoring for their own shorts and pockets version of the Portlander Pants! And boy, did Terra deliver!

While I can fit into the largest girls sizes I usually find that the rise and length are best in a women’s version, as long as the sizing goes down far enough for me. I tested the XXS/XS (mashed between sizes for waist/hips) for the Portlander Shorts update, and found this to be true once again.

I used some custom printed “burlap lace” french terry for the main shorts from Vintage Lace, and some natural crochet pom pom trim from etsy (but I’ve seen similar at Joanns), as well as some double brushed poly scraps from Purpleseamstress for the waistband. I used twill tape for my drawstring again, but if you want to make your own drawstring there’s a fantastic tutorial on my friend’s blog here. The drawstring does not hold the pants up- there is a lot of negative ease in the waistband which accomplishes this. Make sure your waistband fabric has plenty of stretch- I love how the tall band holds me in when I’ve eaten too much BBQ!
