Warrior Pose!

Ok, that title was totally a red herring- I have absolutely ZERO yoga skills or flexibility, so you won’t see me performing anything other than child’s pose when I’m trying to search for a sewing pin in my carpet (note to previous owners: deep pile carpet was a BAD idea in the craft room).

Fortunately, I think the Warrior Pants s go way beyond their namesake and work perfectly well for everyday life, and are especially ideal for fall, since they offer ventilation without sacrificing coverage. Plus, a little side leg is sexy, amiright?

If winter is creeping up on you a bit faster than it is over here in California, you should know that you can easily customize the amount of leg that’s revealed, and with the right fabric, I think the warriors would make great winter pants as well!

Pattern & Fabric Details

For this pair, I chose a burnt orange double brushed poly from Knitpop (it looks like this design is out of stock, but it owuld also look amazing in their denim DBP), that’s deliciously soft and easy to manipulate. The pockets on this pant are one of it’s stand-out features- a totally unique design you won’t find anywhere else. I had a hard time wrapping my mind around the construction of hte pockets at first, but with the help of the video (can we get a hallelujah! for patterns with videos?) I was able to construct them perfectly the first time, and marveled at their genius.

Bonus? They hold in my phone perfectly without risk of falling out!

The waistband, which comes in two rise options (I chose the higher rise) is also quite comfortable- and it would be easy to add in a layer of power mesh for a “tummy stay” if desired. I took just over 3″ off these to suit my height (5’2″), which is typical for me with Greenstyle patterns, and means I could get a full length pant out of about 1.5-1.75 yards.

I honestly wasn’t expecting the wide legs to flatter my shape (I’m short, and a bit “stocky”), but I think the curved back yoke and high waistband resulted in a pant that ticks all three boxes: stylish, comfortable, and work appropriate, vaulting these into the same category as my 5 pairs of Chelsea pants that I love to wear.

I mean, my butt doesn’t usually look this good in pants. They’ve got to be magic.

Free Green Tee Add-On!

If you made it this far, I have another treat for you- the Green Tee got updated with long sleeves, so no more need to hack those sleeves for the cooler weather! The long sleeve version is included with the original download (find the code to make it free in the Facebook Group), or as a free add-on in the shop.

I made this version in Cupro knit from Bow Button Fabrics– I had heard the hype about cupro, and managed to snag a few yards in her last stocking. The deep green color reminds me of pine trees, and it feels like the knit version of sand washed silk- so delish!

As with all my green tees, I’m happy with the fit, and plan to make more now that I have a reliable long sleeve to work with (my hacked one worked, but this fits even better)!

Sewing Breakthrough:

While I was sewing this one (which is probably my 100th V neck or something!) I finally got brave enough to use my coverstitch to topstitch it. I usually use my sewing machine, but I figured it RTW could do it, I could too.

I went slow, hand cranking when I got to the “V” , and then pivoted keeping my presser foot lined up with the edge of the band. I’m pretty stoked about how it turned out- and you can bet I’ll be coverstitching all my V’s down from now on!

What were the kids doing?

Here’s your daily dose of “what in the heck were the kids doing while they took these photos”….

Boys exploring our canal (yes, they know how to watch out for snakes, and were proud to catch a baby lizard). I just love these wide open spaces!

Baby enjoying a popsicle with my mom (see any 3 generational resemblances?). We are so lucky to have her nearby!

Nice job with the coverstitch neckline!

If you’re looking for pins a magnet on a stick, or on a string, can be very helpful 🙂

Super cute pants and tee, and family pics! Wide leg pants are often hard to get good proportions to, but I think the semi-slinky knit (love the color!) Contribute to a flattering look. And love the deep yet soft green of the tee. A perfect piece for fall/winter/early Spring!

I think last time I did a v, I started and stopped at the v instead of pivoting!
