Dark Floral Obsession…and a Cami Tank Hack!

Yall, I don’t know what it is about dark floral prints, but I’m obsessed. Something about the juxtaposition between light and dark, the air of midnight romance, maybe too much Bridgerton…whatever it is, I can’t resist a good moody flower arrangement on a cut of fabric.

So, when I saw the aptly named “Floral Nights” print running at Sew Dynamic, I jumped at the chance to sew it up.

I only had a yard, but that’s plenty for a shortie like me to make a matching athletic set, and I grabbed a couple patterns and dove in.

The bottoms are the Jalie Clara tights, notable for their lack of a center front seam or side seam- there’s only a center back seam and an inseam on these babies!

The rise hits me mid belly button, slightly lower than the Greenstyle high rise, and is less contoured, so it feels looser on the top, as I tend to have more of an hourglass shape.

If you’re a rectangle or a pear, the waistband would be ideal for you. I’m going to adjust to add more contour next time, but I’m enjoying the looser belly fit  on this pair, and I really like how well the design flows without the interruption of a center or side seam- perfect for those large scale prints or stripes you don’t want to bother with matching.

For my top, I hacked the Greenstyle Cami Tank to create a strappier look, a plan I’ve had since the SewAlong a few months ago. To do this, I continued the binding on the front and underarm/back separately, instead of binding the front first, so I ended up with four straps instead of two. I added a little label to the bottom of the back strap, for a hand-made touch, and was done!

I’m really please with the way this set came out, and plan to order the same fabric in the dri-release base before the preorder ends. I’m undecided on what pattern I should use- I’d like to make a t-shirt, but one with a notable detail. Any recommendations?
