New Year’s is fast approaching, and it’s time to get dressed for the occasion. Some people make fancy, sexy clothes for a night out on the town, but my favorite way to ring in the new year is curled up on the couch, watching a movie, and cuddling with my hubby. I’m not saying champagne won’t be involved, but I no longer crave the club scene (if I ever really did), and shapewear will NOT be a part of the equation.
But that doesn’t mean I don’t want to celebrate in style….so I sewed myself a new pair of pajamas using two of my favorite patterns: the Union Street Tee and the Portlander pants, using one of the softest fabrics I could find, baby french terry from Sly Fox Fabrics.
I’m hardly the first person to sew up this combo- and for good reason. The portlander pants (previously sewn as shorts, here) are comfortable and super fast to make- I had this set done in less than two hours.
For the waistband, I used a ribbing from Jumping June Textiles– its nice and heavy, while still maintaining a great amount of stretch. I found my shorts to be a bit tight in the hips, so I added 3/8″ to the outer leg seam only on the front and back of the xs, and the fit is perfect for me. I also chopped off 3″ in length from the hem- not the proper way to do it, but with the wide leg, the look remains pretty unchanged.
The Union Street tee is based on the older version of this pattern- I have sewn both, and I hate to be that person that resists change, but the fit seems looser in the older version, which is exactly what I was looking for in a pair of pajamas.
I nailed the v neck on my first try- a high moment of sewist pride. Of course, given that it’s a pajama top, not many people will see it, which is why I’m bragging to you.
Then again, I like this shirt so much I might actually decide to wear it out- its pretty convient for those days when I have to hit the ground running, and barely have time to run a brush through my hair.
Now that I’m wearing this supremely comfortable set, I’m feeling the irresistible urge to make another…you can never be too prepared for the new year, right?
