I jumped on the jogger bandwagon a long time ago, and have been wearing them in all forms ever since. When I heard my favorite lounge pattern, the Portlanders, were getting a little jogger-transformation, I had to check it out, and brought my mini-me along for the ride!
Never mind that it was 110 degrees outside- I knew I’d be glad for my forward- thinking when the cooler weather rolled in, so I cranked up the A/C, grabbed some of my favorite sweatshirt fleece/french terry, and got to work.
Women’s Version:
The test went pretty smoothly, and before I knew it, I had the most comfortable joggers EV-UH. These are made from a thick, squish sweatshirt fleece from Cali Fabrics, purchased in December when all I could think about was wanting to be WARM.
The cuffs were a bit of a challenge with the thick fabric, but my serger pushed through, and I gave it a break by using a thinner athletic knit for the waistband.
I used my coverstitch to do a reverse stitch on the pockets, which are nice and deep, and unlike many jogger patterns out there, they hold my phone with ease.
What Makes them Different?
So what else sets these apart? There are about a million jogger patterns out there, and you probably own one (or 5) of them already, so here’s what I love about the Carita’s in particular:
- wide, comfortable waistband, smooth under slim fitting tanks
- Slim fit through the calves
- choice of inseam lengths. Keep in mind this is measured to your ankle, so I still needed to remove 1-2″ from the 29″ inseam, but it gets me closer than a lot of other patterns out there with less adjustment.
Girls Version:
The girls version I made in a size 12-18 month width, 2T height, for my daughter, who is 2.5 but on the small side and no longer in diapers (sorry hon, you got mama’s genes!).
The smaller sizes do include options for diaper/no diaper rise, which is awesome. Since we are no longer in diapers during the day, I can’t say how they would fit with cloth, but a diaper rise is always a good start.
The pockets on this one are a bit smaller, so I cut the 2T pocket and did a little trimming so it matched up on the sides, because unlike a 12 month old, she’s a busy girl with things to carry!
To prove their utility, she spent the photoshoot filling them with rocks, which I promptly forgot about. When it was time to do laundry I was reminded by a loud banging sound in the dryer…. (anyone else have kids that like to stuff random things in their pockets?)
She also kept turning around and saying “butt shot”, which not only sounds hilarious coming from a two year old, but also shows how much time we spent trying to get the rear view right…
I’m sure this pattern will be on repeat throughout the fall and winter, and might even give my overworked Portlander pattern a rest!
