While I was in San Diego, I had the pleasure of visiting several local fabric shops…and doing a bit of shopping (all that money saved on shipping means more to spend on fabric, right?).
It was really fun to visit these places in person, and even better to get to meet the people that work there! Knitpop happened to be just 10 minutes from where we were staying (I swear I didn’t know that when I booked our spot!) and as an extra special treat, Sara invited me over to do a little vacation sewing/shopping.
I haven’t figured out how to mix RVing and vacations quite yet (I’m working on it though!), so as we were going on week 2 of our 3 week adventure, the offer to sew seemed like offering me a glass of ice water in the Sahara Desert- there was no hesitation when I said yes! Even if I hadn’t been starved for a little sewing, the chance to create surrounded by all that beautiful fabric (and awesome company) was too tempting to resist.
I was drawn in particular to this beautiful blue and violet print- it reminded me of the ocean we had come to enjoy, and I liked the thought of taking a little bit of that back with me. Sara suggested the Sahara dress, which she had recently made for a friend’s wedding, and we got to work!
Everyone I’ve seen model this dress has gotten an amazing fit, and I was no exception- everything was spot on, and came together really quickly (over a few beers!). Sewing friends are seriously the best, and we had a wonderful time!
I’m really loving the scoop back and the full skirt- and the double brushe poly felt so soft against my (slightly sunburned) skin.
Being in San Diego, I had to take photos on the beach at sunset- when else do I get that opportunity?
This is the Silver Strand State Beach in Coronado- if you ever visit, you should definately take the time to come here- it’s beautiful and not crowded at all!
Baby girl was pretty convinced I was going to “wash away” so she screamed the whole time, while my boys were loading up a huge mesh bag they found with trash and seaweed to “bring home as treasure”- proving once again that you can never really tell what’s going on based on a pretty photo!
Still, the dress and the beach was lovely, and I can’t wait to return (and get her over that fear!)
You can find this beautiful custom double brushed poly here!
