SuperStars!

I don’t know if y’all know this about me, but I’m a researcher at heart. I LOVE nothing more than to dive into a subject, research the heck out of it, and then bore my friends and family for daaayyysss about everything I”v learned.

Its also why I buy more patterns even when I have perfectly decent ones I could hack to get a similar look- what new techniques could I learn from this one? How will the fit be different? What if this one’s “the one”??? (Pattern testing and speed dating have a lot in common, FYI)

That’s how I got sucked into trying the New Orleans Tee from New Horizons. Sure, I have plenty of t-shirt patterns, basic and otherwise. But the options on this drew me in (that sweetheart neckline? swoon! The ruched side? So cute!) and pretty soon I was cutting into some of my favorite grey hacci sweater knit just to see what surprises this pattern had in store for me.

Before cutting, I made a few changes, based on a quick muslin (I would NEVER cut into my SSE pretties without whipping up a test version first. Ok, I would, because I”m also a risk taker, but I didn’t this time!). I raised the neckline slightly, and shortened the top by an inch overall at the hemline (not the correct way to do it, but whatevs.) so it would still cover my bum, but not be tunic length (I’m 5’2″ for reference).

I wasn’t prepared to be wowed, I mean, its just a t-shirt, but….WOW! The fit is amazing, I don’t get those little shoulder drag lines that plague me in other fitted tops, and the ease around the body is on the money, folks.

My adjusted length hits me just below the curve of my bottom, which is as I intended. I like to keep my panti-lines covered (can’t talk me out of my granny-panties), but still show a little leg.

You’re welcome, world.

I decided such an awesome top needed an equally awesome pair of leggings to accompany it, so I grabbed my Inspire Tights pattern (which wasn’t far away, since I just made this set two days ago!) and whipped up a side-seam-less version in less time than it usually takes to find my seam ripper (do you lose yours a lot? Mine seriously grow feet and walk away!)

The fabric was from a So Sew English bundle (seeing a theme here?) that I snagged after seeing a friend make a pair from the grey stars on the same base. I love the feel of this fabric- it feels very high end, and wears really well.

While I was finishing them up, my daughter walked in, and in true three year old style, thrust out her hip and pretty much demanded a matching set.

I had *just* enough fabric to oblige her, using the (aptly named) Peekaboo Sophie Tunic pattern and the Jalie Clara Tights. She’s typically a tough kid to fit, as she’s currently much longer than she is wide, but the size 2T tights lengthened by an inch was perfect. I won’t hem this pair until spring (when they can become capris), but other than that, I was really impressed with the speed and fit of both patterns.

I lined the hood of the tunic with french terry polka dots (also from So Sew English), because pretty much everything she wears has to have a little pink on it, but omitted the drawstring, because I didn’t want to see her chewing on it all day (yuck!)

I think she really enjoyed posing for her photos this time- her moods can vary wildly (like all 3 year olds!), so I never know whether I’m going to get an adorable, cooperative toddler or a screaming/shy/rolling in the mud toddler, but I think she just really loved this outfit and wanted to share it!

She wore it three days in a row afterwards, so I’m calling it a win (and no, I didn’t wash it. If she’s willing to wear clothes, as opposed to footie pajamas or running around stark butt naked, and they’re not atrociously dirty, I could care less).

Well, that’s it! Another happy day filled with leggings and fuzzy tops! What are you sewing today! Make sure it’s something that makes you HAPPY!
