Are you enjoying the holiday season? I sure am…I love seeing the Christmas lights strung up around town, getting holiday themed mugs from Dutch Bros, listening to Christmas carols, and watching my kids bounce off the walls with the endless parade of cookies, candies, and holiday treats.

OK, maybe not that last one, but the rest is true!

With parties, events, and field trips to attend, gifts to buy and family visits to plan, my own wish list often gets neglected.  Figuring you might be the same way, I decided to whip up a quick list of 10 sewing related gifts that any sewist (seamstress? Sewer? What’s your preferred reference?) would enjoy finding under the tree or in her stocking…so read on, and feel free to share with your family and friends!

1) Sewing Clips

I hadn’t heard of them two years ago, and now I can’t do without them. Sewing clips (in all shapes and sizes) are one of my favorite sewing accessories, and they make perfect stocking stuffers!

2) Rotary Cutter

Every seamstress should have a rotary cutter- it cuts much more cleanly than any other method, and faster too. Unfortunately, those little blades dull in no-time, and a dull blade can be both dangerous and hard on the joints (ask me how I know!). Having a stash of extra blades is always a good idea, and makes a very welcome (and practical) gift. Make sure to check out which brand and size he/she uses- I prefer the Olfa 45mm Deluxe Rotary Cutter and replacement blades.

3) Seam Ripper

Seam ripping is an unfortunate fact of sewing, but having a tool that gets the job done efficiently and comfortably is key (I also recommend turning on Netflix for long seam ripping sessions to help numb the pain…). This little purple seam ripper is easy to spot in my sewing room, and works really well.

4) Sewing Subscription box

It’s always fun to get a surprise box of sewing goodies in the mail! I reviewed the Sewciety box recently (check out the video here) and Knitpop also has a new subscription box available!

5) Sewing Supplies Cart

This little cart is a lifesaver in my sewing room- I use it to store my rulers, snap press, clips, rotary cutter, pins, and so much more. I love that it rolls around, so I can move it closer to my machines as needed. I love it so much in fact, that I bought a second one for our school room, to hold the kids art supplies.

6) Pattern Organizer

IKEA Trash Bag Holder…a.k.a. Large Format Pattern Organizer

Our town has outlawed plastic grocery bags, so I don’t need this for its intended purpose- but it makes a brilliant organizer for all those large format pattern prints! Just roll them up and stick them through end to end, label them with a hanging tag, and you’ll have a much more attractive and organized room in no time!

7) Sewing Light!

LED Desk Lamp 

This little guy clips onto your sewing table, illuminating the task at hand. I’ve had mine for three years now, and its still going strong. It’s especially helpful for when you need to unpick something, or for sewing at night, which I do frequently. #cardcarryingperfectionist

8) Sewing Swag

Sewing Machine Monogrammed Keychains from Sew Dashing Love on Etsy

I love these sewing machine monogrammed keychains. They’re personalized, stylish, and my current keychain could use some updating (it’s one of those ugly coil things).

 

9) Sewing Accessories by Thread and Grain

I love all the items in the Thread and Grain shop, but especially these adorable sewing themed mugs from Thread and Grain!

10) Frixion Markers

These little markers are perfect for those times when chalk isn’t going to cut it- they make bright, easily visible marks on fabric, and erase with a little heat from your iron! (Always test them on your fabric first, just to make sure, but I’ve never had a problem).
