Portlanders!

You know my well documented love for comfy pants (examples here and here)- it turns out I’ve managed to pass on my obsession to my children! When New Horizons put out the testing call for the girls Portlander Pants, I knew they would be the perfect summer and winter staple for Princess!

There are so many cute woven patterns for girls pants out there, but since she wears cloth diapers, most don’t fit Princess very well (like the hilarious time I tried to make her Coachellas from linen! I love those shorts, but they would NOT fit over her diaper and will have to wait for potty training!). That’s why a good, quick and easy pattern for knits is so perfect for us, and I was really hoping the Portlanders would be the ticket!

They turned out perfect, even over the fluffiest of cloth diapers. I used a faux drawstring for safety (she pretends everything is a necklace these days!), and omitted the pockets (because the last thing I need is to find MORE treasures in the washing machine).

Once I had a pair sewn up for my girl, I couldn’t resist trying a pair in the size 14 for myself- and they also fit perfectly. I’m surprised by how comfortable the wide knit waistband is, and how secure they feel.

The pockets, which I added on mine, offer a practical touch, although they are too small for my phone. I might add a back pocket as a hack for my next pair as well.

The french terry is a beautiful summer weight I’ve been hoarding from Raspberry Creek Fabrics since last year, and the grey stripes are also part of their club line.

At the last minute, I decided Princess needed a matching tank, and whipped up a Key West Tank (free if you join the Facebook group for the code) using the last of my club stripes and some Pink Zeppelin silver sparkles for the bands. She really thinks she’s the coolest kid on the block now.

The bright colors paired with the grey stripes radiate summer fun, and with a few more pairs of matching Portlanders/Key West Tanks, we’ll be ready to go!

Pattern is on sale for release- grab your copy here!
