Throwback 90s Sweatsuit!
Hello friends!
I’m back again today with a new me made outfit. This time, it’s a sweatsuit set that has a decidedly 90s vibe, and I’m not mad about it!
When I received this “dark jungle” brushed jersey fabric from Sew Dynamic, I knew I wanted something soft and cozy. The fabric feels like athletic brushed poly’s lightweight cousin- stretchy, softly brushed with a little drape but none of the cling you might get from a standard brushed poly. Because of the lighter weight, its warm, but not too warm, which is perfect for late summer/early fall temperatures.
Jalie Alex Pullover
I chose the Jalie Alex pattern for my pullover. I’ve made this before but apparently never blogged about it (yes, I had to search my own blog to figure that out, lol).
It’s a great pattern for an oversized pullover with stand-out finishing details. I love the way the collar is done (so much cleaner than other half zips I’ve made), and the little welt pockets are roomy and come out really crisp if you take your time with them.
The zipper is also very easy to install- this would be a great pattern for a beginner doing their first zipper.
I do find that this pattern runs a little large for my tastes- I think its designed that way, but I prefer a slimmer cut, so I took about 1″ off each side seam from wrist to the top of the pocket blending to about 1/3″ off the side from pocket down.
The hem can be finished with a drawstring, but I skipped that, because I didn’t feel like getting out my grommet press.
Since I was trying to squeak two pieces out of two yard cut, I pieced together the facing and back yoke from a coordinating remnant of athletic brushed poly I had in my stash. I really love the way the reverse coverstitching stands out here! It is functional as well- the stitching goes along the back yoke lining, so the facing doesn’t shift out of place.
Carita/Courtside Joggers Mash
After I finsihed the pullover, I decided to make a pair of matching joggers. I mashed two of my favorite patterns to get the details I love from both.
The legs are from the Pattern Niche Carita Joggers (made before here), and the waistband is the foldover style from the new Greenstyle Courtside undershorts.
This waistband is unique to all other athletic waistbands I’ve tried because it doesn’t have a top seam- the waistband is contoured but folded over at the top.
Honestly, I initially thought I would hate it, because I hate fold down yoga style waistbands, but this one is designed to stay up, and has held up really well without scrunching down through daily activities.
It doesn’t feel at all constrictive at the top, either, which is really nice for those hormonal days when you don’t want extra restriction around your midsection.
I also reverse coverstitched as much of the pants as I could- the pockets, side seams, and waistband. I like how it breaks up the print a little bit, and adds extra durability to the garment.
Since I don’t think I’ll actually be brave enough to wear this set together in real life, I paired the joggers with a Greenstyle Cami tank (cropped, strappy style, youtube tutorial HERE).
I love this combo, and plan to make a few more sets. I wore this outfit on our last night in Acadia, where we picnicked with friends on the top of Cadillac Mountain for sunset.
It was the perfect way to wrap up our time there, and I was nice and cozy warm as the temperature dropped with the sun.

Oh, and little miss couldn’t resist getting some of the photoshoot action. While I might feel occasionally self conscious posing in public places, she seems to have no hesitation popping a pose!
She’s wearing a little dress I made her out of dance fabric from JoAnns. I didn’t plan on buying this piece, but that’s what happens when you take your 6 year old daughter into the store with you!
Travel Update
We left Acadia and moved to New Hampshire where we have been staying for a week. This state has so much to explore (especially the White Mountains area) and we are loving our location.

Opportunities for rock climbing, hiking and shopping abound, and I wish we had a little more time here. There’s always next time though!
