Using a snap press to install fashion snaps

I have a sewing confession to make: I hate buttonholes. While my machine has an automatic button hole foot, sometimes things go awry, and picking out those tiny stitches gives me a neck-ache. Which leads me to my new snap obsession! Snaps are quick and easy to install, and lend a professional look to many projects and garments.

In this video, I demonstrate how to install them using my KAM snap press. If you’re looking for a tutorial on how to install these snaps using a hammer, you can find that video HERE.

I used the following tools in this video:

I did NOT have the fashion snap dies, so I made these pieces work, and they worked out quite well. If you have this press, you can also order the fashion dies on the KAM website, but I wanted to make it work with what I had. Regardless of the size of snaps you’re using, this video is a great introduction for how to install fashion snaps with your press.

Hey Sarah, that snap press is not your average press. I have a very basic one from babyville but I haven’t been able to use it because the plastic snaps dont work. Like you said, it is a little bit of an investment but it does look durable and sturdy. Can you use any kind of snap with it, as long as you have the snap dies ? thanks for the video

It is super sturdy and I think it’s pretty much pro grade. They do run sales from time to time- so Black Friday might be a good opportunity if you’re looking to upgrade. I have found that it works with the size 16 snaps from Joanns/amazon- but all my others I’ve ordered from kam. So I would say probably yes, if they are a standard size snap that’s the same type and size as the dies you have.
