Tested: Cecilia Criss Cross Top

If you hang around the pattern world long enough, you start to see some consistencies in the requests for certain designs, and a relaxed fit, dolman sleeve wrap top like this one, has been one of the most requested this Fall/Winter.

Since I’m slowing easing myself into wearing less fitted tops, I decided to give it a shot when the testing call for the Cecilia Top came up at the DIBY Club, and I’m really glad I did!

This little number is not only easy to construct, but also really nursing friendly (while still retaining its usefulness after nursing is done!), two big plusses for this mama!

It also has a longer hem in back to cover my, um, assets, which is really nice for those of us who have a hard time talking ourselves out of both leggings and granny panties. (TMI? Sorry!)

I used a rayon spandex ribbed jersey from So Sew English Fabrics, and constructed the entire thing using my serger and coverstitch machine. The curve at the back neck is the only really challenging part of making this top- and I highly recommend a  line of basting stitches or wonder tape to help you as you hem, to keep the hem allowance even, and save yourself some seam ripping (ask me how I know!).

An hour or two later, and a new favorite top is born! I can’t wait to try this little number in a thick sweater knit, or a slightly sheer knit for spring layering!

How much did you lengthen the back? I too feel like I need it to be longer to wear leggings

I actually didn’t lengthen the back- its just designed like that!

    HI Sara,
I have been admiring this top. I have seen it a few times on Facebook. I love the style but my problem is when you raise your hands, do you see your belly button? I made another top for my daughter, similar hemline and that was her complaint. It shouldn’t be too hard to lengthen the front a little bit. Just curious what your take was on it.

My BB would probably be showing if I did that, yes. I would recommend lengthening, or wearing a tank underneath, since the front isn’t super secure unless you tack it together. Hope that helps!
