Valentine’s Day Comfort Wear

I’m excited to be hosting a Valentine’s Day Sew-Along for Greenstyle Creations this week, and as preparation I decided to sew up a new Valentine’s inspired Pajama set for myself- because the best gifts are the ones you make yourself, right?

However, I had a bit of a conundrum- I am WAY more into comfortable loungewear, than I am skimpy-sexy lingerie. Just like I don’t like making Halloweeen costumes because they are a TON of work for a very short time in the spotlight, I also don’t like making clothes that won’t get worn on a regular basis (sorry honey! that’s what 14 years of marriage will do to you!)- so I designed a set that would be both comfortable, practical, and attractive.

I used the Sybil Robe, by Greenstyle, for my topper. Tester photos reveal it’s a stunner in velvet or silk- but I chose to make mine out of a more practical (and cozy!) french terry. I included pockets, shortened the hem several inches so it would hit me at the low hip, and turned under the front edge and topstitched instead of using the included facing, for a quick and easy finish (fabric from Pretty Posh Prints).

The ribbon ties at the waist make it far from basic, and its nice and cozy for those mornings when I haven’t had time to sneak to the thermostat and inch it up a couple degrees while hubby isn’t looking (anyone else have a husband who likes the house just this side of frozen over night?)

Since I’m addicted to making them, I decided to complete my outfit with a pair of ponte portlander pants, using the same ribbon for the waist tie and a coordinating brushed poly floral to bring the set together (Ponte is from Surge Fabrics, brushed poly is from Pretty Posh Prints) Not pictured is the No-Show Thong that also coordinates- because a girl’s gotta have her secrets, right?

Now I’m ready for Valentine’s day (and every day!) with my new sleep set!

If you need a little extra encouragement, here’s a full video of me sewing the No Show Thong- don’t worry, I don’t model it in the end!

What’s on your table for the day of love? Don’t forget to join the Sew Along here for a chance to win some awesome fabric and pattern prizes! You only have to make 1 of the three patterns to be entered to win- I’ll be choosing winners on Valentine’s Day!

Don’t forget to subscribe to my blog for a weekly (sometimes daily, if I’m feeling ambitious!) dose of inspiration to your inbox! You can also find me on Instagram and Facebook!

    Beautiful.
The bottoms look like they could be worn out. Is there anything keeping them just for at home? Besides maybe the ribbon?

You’re right- they could totally be worn out! Acutally, this was my test pair to see if I could pull it off- and I’ve decided they are most certainly work worthy in ponte.

Super cute. I’d take that over skimpy lingerie any day of the week.
