For the man who does it all….

People frequently ask how I can possibly get so many projects/hacks/sew-alongs completed, given the already full schedule of homeschooling, working, and being a full time mom to three young children. I can tell you, with absolute certainty, that almost nothing would get done without the amazing support of my husband, who helps save our family from an excess of frozen dinners and pizza orders, who stays up late with me to help me film a new sew-along, and who spends countless hours editing our many photo shoots, among (many) other things.

That’s why, when Greenstyle Creations decided to re-vamp the Men’s Hudson Pullover, I knew I had to take the opportunity to let a project for him rise to the top of my pile, taking the time to find just the right combination of fit and fabric as a small token of my appreciation. I haven’t sewn something for him since the Dylan Tees, which he wears every chance he gets, despite my shoddy hemming (which makes me cringe every time I see it! My coverstitch does NOT love tri-blend).

While he’s usually a pretty formal dresser, he was excited about the idea of a more casual pullover, especially in this camo french terry, and I was looking forward to the chance to sew something special for him. Plus, having a subject that doesn’t try to run away from me every second she gets was a very welcome change (I’m looking at you princess!)

The new and improved Hudson now has size layers and no trim pages, as well as options for a hood, zippered front, kangaroo pocket, and thumb cuffs.  He chose the simplest view, and I used a contrast heavy rib for the cuffs, band and neck.

Fitting men is trickier than I anticipated (it must be those sexy shoulders and broad chest!), but the Hudson is spot on for him- perfect for wearing over a short sleeve tee or a base layer for mountain bike or dirt bike riding (two of his favorite hobbies). The forearms were loosened after this one was sewn, but we joked that he has extra muscles there from all the typing he does at the office (not to mention all the work he does putting together IKEA furniture for my sewing room!).

My french terry had minimal stretch (about 25% two way stretch), so it may fit differently in a lighter weight, stretchier fabric. I also shortened my bands slightly, to account for the extra stretch in the rib knit.

After it was finished I put it on briefly to see if I should topstitch the neckline (I decided it needed it!), and I fell in love- now I want an oversized camo sweatshirt to wear with leggings and boots this winter so we can match (in the meantime, I’ll wear my camo centerfield/swing mash)!

The real test of love was when I asked my very hot-blooded man to model for me in 98 degree weather….he tossed it on and posed like a pro, with a minimum of complaints, and plenty of compliments for my sewing skills. Thanks honey!

Love this sweatshirt! Where did you get that fabric? I’m always on the hunt for camo knit fabric, since I am a camo lover. Super cool! I want one, too! Awesome that your husband is such a good sport. I don’t know what I’d so without my supportive man.

Amen to that! I actually bought this fabric from another seamstress- but I think she may have gotten it from LDG?
