Chelsea Pants SewAlong Day 2

Welcome to day 2 of the Chelsea Pants Sew Along! I’m delighted to have you joining me over in Sly Fox Fabrics Sew Along Group (even if you’re just planning on lurking….I will do my best to change your mind!) for a whirlwind week of sewing shenanigans!

Today’s task is pretty simple: Construct your pockets!

The pockets on these pants are one of my favorite details: the swoop shape is very flattering and unique! I did find that my phone didn’t always want to stay put using the smallest pocket size- so you might want to consider upsizing your pockets if you rely on your back pocket as your main phone keeper (which I do!).

Another option, if you want a more classic jeans pocket look, is to trace off a pair of pockets from a pair of jeans (don’t forget to add seam allowance and enough at the top to fold over!).

You can still use the pattern to help you determine placement, but either way, I highly recommend that you baste your pockets on and wait until the end to topstitch them down, so you can move them around for the most flattering look. The position of back pockets makes a huge difference in how your rear end looks!

Of course, the pockets are optional, so if you don’t want them at all, you can just relax a bit today!

Hi Sarah, Did you use the medium size pocket for all the Chelsea pants that you have sewn?

Sorry I missed this question! I used the smaller pocket, but I think I would make the largest ones in the future. My phone kinda falls out.
