His and Her Raglans!

Late last year, when I did the Raglan SewAlong (check that out HERE), I ended up with two great new raglans- one for myself, and one for the hubs. With all the Christmas and New Year’s crazies, I didn’t get around to blogging about it until now, which works out ok, because today is actually my husband’s birthday- Happy Birthday honey!

Seriously, this guy is just the best. We drive each other crazy at times (we’re both high intensity people who always have an opinion), but I couldn’t do this life thing without him, and I’m endlessly grateful for all his help and support with this sewing hobby of mine. He’s the man behind the camera, shooting photos (sometimes several days in a row), helping me edit my videos, and keeping those kiddos out of trouble when I’m squirreled away in my sewing room hacking at a pattern to share with you guys.

The Hudson Pullover

He’s always grateful for the things I make him, and this Hudson raglan was perfect for his simple tastes. The fabric is a mystery blend from Knitpop– so buttery soft and thick, with amazing stretch and recovery. The fact that I parted with it is evidence of how much I appreciate this guy, because it was that good (and so is he!).

At this point, I’ve made a few of these, and made some adjustments this time for his shoulders and arms. I also added a little length (too much, it turns out!), but I’ve got the fit nearly perfected for him and that’s exciting.

The Centerfield Raglan

Of course, I had to make myself some Greenstyle too, so my raglan is the Centerfield pattern (sized up for a bit of slouch) with the cowl add on, and my fabric is from So Sew English. I love this teal blue/watercolor pattern, and the colors coordinated really well with the green Hudson without being too matchy-matchy (we’ll save that for the mother-daughter outfits- lol).

As an unexpected bonus, I found that I can nurse in this cowl version! I will lower the cowl by a couple inches on my future versions, and then I’ll be all set! At this stage in my nursing journey, I don’t want clothing that looks like nursing wear, and prefer items that are nursing friendly, so they’ll continue to be useful for a while to come.

Better Together…

I’ve heard people say that the longer you’re married the more you start to look and think alike…I can say for sure that since starting on opposite ends of the political spectrum, we’re now meeting in the middle (usually!), so maybe we’ve also aged to look alike? What do you think?

    Such a lovely vely couple.
I would love to know how you plan to modify your next cowl raglan to make it more nursing friendly. Thank you!

I’ll add an inch or two to the cowl length but cutting it and expanding it and I’ll Lower the neckline by the same amount. Hope that helps!

Is this is a slim fit for men? My husband is a tall, muscular man with a big belly. I know I usually need yo add some length to his shirts, but I have yet to find a good raglan pattern for him. Just would like your perspective on this pattern for a tall, big man.

I wouldn’t say its a slim fit- more like semi fitted. Not too tight throughout the belly, but if his is generously sized, you could always add some length as you’ve done in the past. Hope that helps!
