More Fit Gear!

Sewing activewear can be kind of addicting- its fast, easy, and gets lots of daily wear- what’s not to love? Hopefully you aren’t sick of seeing it on my blog, because here’s another winner!

I took some time off from sewing during Spring Break, but as soon as I got back, I dove into the test for the new Pacific Pullover from Greenstyle (anyone else get withdrawals when they don’t sew for a week?).

This pattern has tons of options- from a basic tank tozippered pullover, which is really great, because our weather has been a bit schizophrenic lately (and I say that, with the full power of my Marriage and Family Therapist degree behind me- its nuts here!).

When the test started, it was 40 degrees and freezing, but a week later it was a sunny and stifling 90 degrees- definitely NOT hoodie weather! I knew I needed to make a few more athletic tanks to survive the oncoming summer, and I was running short on time, so I went for the basic hemmed tank version.

There is an optional pocket for the side panel, but I skipped that too, because I prefer to have my phone in the back zippered pockets I’ve added to most of my Super G leggings, or in a hydration belt, but the option is there, if you need it.

One of the things I love the most about this pattern is that it’s a great scrapbuster- I used some leftover circular knit from my Fit Capsule tops to make the Pacific– it always feels so good to use up all those little pieces! The fit is based off the free Green Tee, which I love, so if you’ve made that, you will get a good idea for the fit of this one.

I did change the pattern slightly to add bindings around the arm and neck edges- I didn’t have enough fabric to make the facings, and I like the way it looks and feels. You can see it’s a bit wide on my shoulders, which tend to be narrow- next time I’ll take out an inch or so at the top shoulder, and deepen the armholes a bit for more airflow (if you haven’t already guessed, our summers are HOT!)

I also added a reverse coverstitch detail on the side panels and hem- you can check out how I do that in my Xpress Tank Sew Along video here.

Full disclosure: I actually tried to make another one in the two days I had to sew and photograph after my vacation, and failed miserably. My serger took a bite out of it, the zipper looked wonky, and it got thrown in the UFO pile after some choice words and tears.

Just so you don’t think everything I make always comes out perfectly- I have my epic fails too! Once I get some distance from it, I might go back and try to salvage it- the fabric was great, and I think it would have gone much better if I hadn’t been distracted by a mountain of camping laundry and an exhausted toddler.

I’m also scheming on a Lille/Pacific mash- I think that zippered collar would look super cute on a dress, don’t you?

Of course, by the time I went to take photos, the weather had turned cold/rainy again, so I threw my Midway bomber on top, and wore my 3/4 length Super G leggings on bottom! I really love this outfit- and it was fun to be head to toe Greenstyle!

And perfect for a little impromptu workout at the park!

What I love most about your blog is how real you are! I love reading your opinions on all the amazing things you sew up and learn along the way.

Thank you Diana! I really want the blog to be a place where we can connect and learn from each other- not just sew up pretty things (though that’s fun too!)
